How to Withdraw Money from your EPF Account

EPFIndia.com – Are you an employee having more than 6500 Rs salary? Well, almost all the salaried employees contribute a certain percentage of their salary to their Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account every month. Are you one of them? Do you know how and in which conditions you can withdraw your EPF money? Here, we have included it in detail.

How to withdraw Money from your EPF Account

We all know that EPF helps us to gather money before retirement. Well, very few people know that we can withdraw amount from EPF account for urgent cash conditions. However, you can not treat the EPF account as a saving bank account. EPF account has certain precised criteria under which you can withdraw money from it. If you want a premature withdrawal of EPF, you must satisfy the essential requirements with the relevant documents to be eligible for withdrawal.

Here is detailed information to withdraw your EPF:

Education or Marriage:
  1. Withdrawal from EPF is allowed for self, siblings, or children’s marriage.
  2. Moreover, the employee should have completed 7 years of employment or service.
  3. If you want to withdraw from EPF for education, then it is allowed for self and children’s education only.
  4. If you want to withdraw for education, you need to apply in Form 31 through your employer.
  5. In addition, proof of the education or marriage is required to be submitted. For example, you have to submit the bonafide certificate or marriage invitation card.
Furthermore, this is allowed thrice only during your total service term.

Medical Treatment:
  1. If you want to withdraw from EPF for medical treatment then it is available for self, spouse, children, and parents.
  2. Moreover, there are no limitations regarding the number of years of service.
  3. For medical treatment withdrawal, you will have to submit the proof of hospitalization for a month or more with the leave certificate from the employer.
  4. Moreover, the member needs to get and deposit a certificate from the employer or ESI saying that ESI service is not available or accessible to him or her.
  5. In addition, the certified proof or document of the disease is required to be submitted in Form 31 when you apply for withdrawal.
Purchase of Plot:
  1. To withdraw from EPF for purchase of plot, you must have completed at least 5 years of service.
  2. Moreover, the plot or property should be registered in the person’s or his/her spouse’s name o it should be owned mutually.
  3. In addition, the plot should not be intertwined with any legal issues and the agreement must be registered under the Indian Registration Act with the Flat Promoter required to be submitted with the application form.
It is allowed once in complete service term.

Construction or purchase of a Flat, House or Plot:
  1. The house should be registered in the person’s or his/her spouse’s name or it should be owned mutually.
  2. The employee should have completed at least 5 years of service.
It is permitted only once in a service tenure.

Repayment of Home Loan:
  1. The employee must have completed at least 10 years of employment.
  2. Moreover, the house must be registered in the person’s or his/her spouse’s name or should be owned evenly.
It is allowed once only during the complete service term.

Alteration or Renovation of House:
  1. An employee must have completed at least 5 years of service.
  2. Additionally, the house should be registered in the person’s or his/her spouse’s name or owned mutually.
It is acceptable only once during entire service term.

Pre-retirement:
  1. The person must have completed 54 years of age.
It is allowed once during complete service tenure.

Withdrawal from EPF after leaving an Organization:

If an employee switches to a new job, he/she can apply for transfer of money from the EPF account with the help of application form which is filled by the employee and attested by the selected authority at the employer.

However, withdrawal of money from the EPF account in between two jobs is prohibited and it is acceptable only in the following two conditions:
  1. When a member is in between two jobs.
  2. If the member is not able to find another job for more than two months.

How to check UAN Status of EPF

The Universal Account Number is necessary now for the Employee’s Provident Fund account. Have you registered for the Universal Account Number? If yes, then do you know your UAN status? Here, we have included the official way to check your UAN status online.

How to check UAN Status of EPF

It is required to have UAN number for quick and simple online transfer of EPF. If you don’t have it, then ask for it to your employer. He will give you the UAN number as soon as he gets from the EPFO (Employee’s Provident Fund Office). Here are step by step instructions on how to check UAN status of EPF.

Step 1:

First of all, you need to visit the member portal for Universal Account Number portability. Go on this link https://uanmembers.epfoservices.in/.

Step 2:

Now, you need to click on the “Know your UAN member”.


Step 3:

You will be redirected to the next page where you have to enter the PF details. Follow the steps given below.

1. Select the state where your office is registered, in case of confusion; refer the first two letters of your PF number. The first two letters are initiated for the state such as GJ for Gujarat, MH for Maharashtra, and DS for Delhi.
2. Now, choose the PF office region. Well, states may have numerous regions. You can get idea of your region from the next three letters of the PF number.
3. After you choose the region and state, the two columns of PF numbers gets filled automatically. Just verify it with your PF number.
4. Now, fill the organization number. Moreover, every employee in your organization will have the same number.
5. Next, the fourth column is for extension. Mostly, it remains 000. In addition, it may not be in your PF number. You can leave it blank as well.
6. Now, enter your PF number. It will be unique from all employees in your office. It can be of maximum 7 digits.


Step 4:

After you enter the PF details, click on check status button. On the next page, you will know whether the UAN number is allotted to you or not. If it is provided to you then you will be asked to enter other details for the verification process. Enter your personal details asked in the form. It should match with your EPFO records. After entering all the details, click on GET PIN button.


Step 5:

You will receive a PIN number on your registered mobile number. Enter the Pin in the given column. Click on “I agree” tab. After that, click on the “Submit” button.

Step 6:

On the next page, there will be your UAN number. The Universal Account Number will be displayed in the green colour fonts. The message will be like “Your UAN is XXXXXXXXXXXX. Log in to the http://uanmembers.epfoservices.in/ with User ID XXXXXXXXXXXX and password selected by you. Moreover, you will get an SMS with UAN number on your mobile number.
